Iyengar Yoga Yoga of the Heart™
Vinyasa
Power Alignment Yoga™ - Because of my love of Power Yoga and Iyengar Yoga, I created, developed, and have held the trademark on Power Alignment Yoga™ since 2004. Power Alignment Yoga™ is a synergestic blend of Power Yoga and Iyengar Yoga; it is a rigorous physical practice that incorporates Iyengar Yoga alignment principles, meditation, and breathwork to align body, breath, mind and spirit.
Power Alignment Yoga™ is a moving, flowing yoga that reaches every aspect of the being in a non-competitive way. It stimulates, strengthens, stretches, balances and rejuvenates every muscle, organ, joint, vessel and bone in the body. Power Alignment Yoga™ is designed to heat the body internally to build strength and flexibility, increase cardiovascular endurance, encourage weight loss, lengthen and sculpt the physique, and focus and calm the mind. The goal of Power Alignment Yoga™ is to allow students to tap into their core strength and realize their full potential on all levels.
The hallmark of a Power Alignment Yoga™ class is the constant flow or swift pace of non-stop movements (known as vinyasas or connecting movements) and the conscious use of breath (Pranayama)
Power Alignment Yoga™ uncovers the root causes of stress and provides the means to conquer them, it demonstrates the value of exercise and attitude, and harnesses the power of discipline and inner balance. It is a muscle-shaping, mind-sculpting workout that crosses all borders.
The effects of Power Alignment Yoga™ are:
· Students will feel stronger and be more relaxed.
· Students will notice an increase in muscle tone.
· Injuries heal more quickly.
· Overall improved health as they detoxify and clean internal organs.
Power Alignment Yoga™ reduces stiffness in the muscles, quickens recovery time and develops focus.
Power Alignment Yoga™ is a complete practice on its own or and essential component to any sport or training practice.
Alignment
IYENGAR YOGA places special emphasis on precision and alignment within each individual asana (physical posture). Through the innovative use of props and intricate adjustments, the Iyengar method makes yoga accessible to anybody, regardless of physical limitations. Gains will be felt in strength, flexibility, stamina, balance, and a heightened sense of well-being.
The Iyengar approach is internationally respected for both vigorous style and in-depth understanding of physical movement that creates softness inside and firmness outside. This combination of inner calm and muscular strength bestows an awareness of how to hold postures in alignment while in a meditative state, therefore, creating an opening for the natural pathways of the breath to flow.
Iyengar yoga teaches correct alignment of the spine and limbs in all poses. The method is safe and orderly. Students are taught a progressive series of postures in each of the different level classes. The postures are adjusted to meet the specific conditions of each student. While the technique helps to refine your poses, it also trains the mind to remain alert and focused. Correct form and alignment is essential to a healthy yoga practice and Iyengar yoga is unsurpassed in its creative and innovative presentation of the yoga asana.
Iyengar yoga is based on the work of B.K.S. Iyengar, world-renowned Yoga master and author of many books, including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on Ashtanga Yoga. Mr. Iyengar pioneered the use of props such as straps, blankets, blocks, bolsters, and chairs to help students achieve precise postures safely and completely according to their particular body types and needs. Mr. Iyengar was born in 1918 in India and currently resides in Pune, India where he teaches hundreds of students weekly at the Ramanani Memorial Institute. To this day, he maintains an active daily practice.
